We are dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality and affordable homes.
Critically, ‘affordable housing’ and ‘social housing’, are two different things.
‘Social housing’ is generally defined as government subsidised short and long-term rental housing, often owned and managed by State and Territory Governments.
Unfortunately, in Australia there is no common meaning for ‘affordable housing’ across jurisdictions and government programs.
At Ironbark Housing, affordable housing means ‘housing which is affordable for low to moderate income households’ – ideally 25% less than what the market is charging for similar housing.
Ironbark Housing is a registered not-for-profit charity and is a deductible gift recipient (DGR) approved entity.
We assist in the provision of affordable housing solutions to eligible clients including indigenous, aged and accessible housing types.
Ironbark Housing has been established by James Whitelaw, the Founder of Affordable Management Corporation (one of Australia’s largest affordable NRAS housing providers with approximately $1.5 billion of assets under management) and the Founder of Trilogy Care (one of Australia’s largest providers of in-home aged care package management).
Backed by a very experienced and highly successful team, we create housing developments that are carefully located and designed to ensure they are not just affordable, but also highly liveable and conducive to a sense of community.
We deliver a multitude of affordable, cost-effective and customer focussed services, ensuring that the homes delivered by Ironbark Housing meet the requirements of current and future demands placed upon them.
We work with communities, state and local governments, not-for-profits, designers, architects and other stakeholders to build new, appropriately designed and innovative affordable homes.
We can help you bring your affordable housing ideas to life. This can be undertaken on a fee-for-service basis, or we could take on another role to help implement your idea.
People from all walks of life may live in affordable housing, which is designed to minimise housing stress for low-income and disadvantaged families and individuals, to assist them in meeting their other essential basic daily living needs. Affordable housing helps contribute to vibrant, thriving and sustainable neighbourhoods.
Affordable housing provides a whole range of community benefits, but specifically it addresses the gap in the market between social housing and private housing. Rents are set at a reduced rate to market rent for eligible people that may find it difficult to afford rent in the open market, but are earning too much to be eligible for social housing.
Helping older Australians living outside of major centres, runs in our blood. Many older rural and remote residents live in old houses which are expensive to retrofit or modify. A judicious mix of temporary and long-term supported and affordable rental accommodation, with in-home support services provided via our ‘sister’ organisation, Trilogy Care Foundation, provides a comprehensive solution to the complex demands of aged care in locations with access to very few services.
Whether you’re curious about our services, or have any other queries, we’re here to help.
